Get to Know Our Story

The plans for building the Divots Conference Center were underway in 2001, but only after thought and research of a Harley Davidson franchise, a diesel truck repair shop, and a place for people to hold events and weddings.

Divots opened its doors in May of 2002. Initially, it only hosted a wedding and a wedding reception. Thus was born Herrick Farms, Inc. DBA Divots Conference Center, Donna Herrick, owner, CEO, and president.

History

Before the Conference Center, Divots consisted of a 1500 square foot sports bar, small golf shop, an 18 hole miniature golf course, driving range, and outdoor volleyball courts.

Home to the Herrick family for over 25 years, the Norfolk area was chosen for the balmy beaches, ocean views, a wonderful culture of caring, and for people who were of a solid, good character in an agricultural and small community environment.

Growth

As the business's needs grew and the Norfolk community developed, the screened-in porch transitioned to the Veranda restaurant in 2003, and the SandBar and Grill was built in 2004, along with four new regulation sand volleyball courts.

The main drive behind the construction of the SandBar was to accommodate the volleyball players. However, it has become a very active and favorite part of the facility to all who come to visit. Its' rustic charm, great food, fun atmosphere, and accommodating service-oriented staff attract guests for a relaxing time.

2005

In 2005, Norfolk Lodge and Suites ( 70 rooms ) opened its' doors to provide lodging to guests attending events at the conference center. Four years later, an additional 30 rooms and two new conference rooms were added. This was to attract regional association meetings requesting the desired minimum of 100 rooms.

The Solarium was also built in 2005 to become a covered walkway to traverse the property without being subjected to extreme weather conditions. To accommodate larger events and the Divots Summer Concert series, the DeVent Center and permanent outdoor stage were completed in 2007.

2008

Beginning in 2008, the DeVent Center became the location for many trade shows and annual events, such as the Yuletide Market, Women & Children's Expo, and the Bridal and Prom Extravaganza. In recent years, Car Shows, Antique Shows, and the Celebration of Lights have also been added to the events list.

Since then, the SandBar & Grill has undergone many new additions, with the second expansion starting in 2009, and in 2014 a third expansion showcasing the new Divots Brewery, specializing in ten or more of our own specialty brews, along with a new outdoor patio with seating and fire
